Zero-Inertia Offshore Grids: N-1 Security and Active Power Sharing

With Denmark dedicated to maintaining its leading position in the integration of massive shares wind energy, construction new offshore energy islands has been recently approved by Danish government. These will be zero-inertia systems, meaning that no synchronous generation installed island and power imbalances shared only among converters. To this end, paper proposes a methodology calculate update frequency droops gains converters compliance with N-1 security criterion case converter outage. The droop are calculated solving an optimization problem which takes into consideration limitations as well stability system. As consequence, proposed controller ensures safe operation off-shore systems event any imbalance allows for greater loadability at pre-fault state, confirmed simulation results.
